Consider that attending a fundraiser - where you make a donation in return for rubbing elbows and listening to a speach - is the very definition of “paying to hear a politician speak”.

The wording makes it sound dirty - but fundraisers are very, very ingrained in American politics.

They are very ingrained. So is corruption. But, after the last 20 years, I am fed up with “hearing politicians speak”. It’s about time they start listening to us speak. I think Palin listens more than most politicians and I’d be more willing to pay to listen to her than just about anyone. But, it’s our duty as free citizens to keep her honest and continually remind her that we owe her nothing at this point and it’s her job to stay accessible and to earn our continuing trust every day. I pray she sticks with the People, and keeps the Party elite and power-brokers at arms-distance.
