I first have to admit to the fact that I am a total and complete pop culture drop-out; I have never seen an episode of "Sponge Bob", I didn't know what "I'd hit it." meant for the longest time and I really hadn't a clue about who Paris Hilton was, nor what she had done to become so incredibly famous.
A word to the wise, DO NOT google Paris Hilton and if you do, make sure the kids are out of the room.
Anyway, my daughter, who is 8 years old, came home from a playdate signing Taylor Swift songs. She loves the music. One of her friends at school turned her on to the tunage.
My wife, who is actually deeper under the rock than I, asked if I might check into Swift and her apparent appropriateness for 8 year old girls. We'd like to get her a CD for Christmas. Any suggestion for particular Swift releases?
I think that her act looks pretty clean and wholesome. Her lyrics don't seem to be problematic and of what I have heard of the songs, they sound good; a nice mix of pop/country. Nothing all that complex or earth shattering.
I told my old lady, not to sweat it. Taylor Swift is certainly no Britney Spears!
What say my Freeper Friends?
You done right raising your girl.
That is the kind of lady we are aiming to raise.
Thanks for the feedback gang.
This is kind of what I was looking for.
G’night.
There are some good things on TV now-a-days...TCM is doing “Andy Hardy” tonight and yesterday was Humphrey Bogart all day and into the night. I accidentally caught a bit of “prissy-crissy” tonight and it made me throw up in my mouth a little.
Taylor is a very responsible, mature young lady. She writes songs that youngsters can relate to (more early teens than really little ones usually, as they usually involve experiences of young/unrequited love, high school pals, etc.). My daughter is 16 and homeschooled, and intensely dislikes anyone “skanky” or questionable. She is a HUGE Taylor fan for a couple of years now, and so far, there hasn’t been so much as a whisper of anything untoward about her. She is squeaky clean, and a lady. She has won many, many awards in the past few months for her music (even beat out Keith Urban and Kenny Chesney for Artist of the Year, or some such award, at the Country Music Awards a couple of weeks ago), and I believe she deserves each and every one! You need have no concerns about her listening to Miss Swift’s music. Just enjoy the fact that she hasn’t taken a liking to Lady Gaga or Britney Spears!
That was great! Thanks for the link.
Bought MP3 players for my girls. It was the first album to go them. Good, wholesome music. She comes across as very classy for so young.
I find her music charming and I'm well outside of her targeted demographic. Of course, I only know a few songs but I think “ you belong with me “ is an especially charming, sweet song. I understand Swift is up for a number of awards and I hope she wins all of them.
This same guy said Myle Cyrus ( spelling ? ) wore some very provocative clothing and her stage gyrations were certainly not G rated. And Cyrus is a kid as far as I know. Its a shame so much of contemporary music needs to roll around in the gutter. Well written, well sung songs are hard to come by these days.
Forgot to mention, Joe, this is the same gal who was interrupted during an award ceremony by that idiot Kanye West not long ago.
CM,
thanks for posting that link. I’d never heard that song and I was really blown away by the music video. What a wonderful young lady Taylor is.
My favorite Swift song:
And mine:

Thanks. I think she’s pretty great. :)
You think Britney is kid-friendly?
None of them are.
The next Harry Potter films probably won’t be.
Mylie Cyrus is turning into Lindsay Lohan. I heard pole dancing is part of her stage show now.
My band, female fronted pop, looked at some taylor swift and decided it was just too bubble gum. My band has three girls, aged 21-25, a 14 year old male guitar player and me. We’ll do Kelly Clarkson, Pink, Sheryl Crow, Paramour etc. But not Taylor.
14 year old male guitar should have been 24 year old. My bad.

Your post about Taylor Swift was good and all, and Imma let you finish, but that post about Beyonce was the best post ever.
You neglected the “sentimental daddy tissue” alert.
That video takes me right back to some good days.
This girl has obviously got her head screwed on straight.
There are people that are probably making fun of that video for being overly sweet and sentimental ~ and I wouldn’t give a hoot what such people thought.
I agree. I bet there are some good things to be seen.
I don’t mean to come off as one of those sanctimonius “no TV” people. I simply haven’t had the time for it and there are a lot of things on the tube that are bad for my kids ~ who read 2 to 3 whole grade levels above “average” students.
Okay, you guys have made me a fan!
This young lady isn’t going to turn into Miley Cyrus or Britney Spears. Those girls switched over to shaking their money makers because they were forced to after their teen markets grew up. It must be difficult for a young woman to have to start taking off her clothes because her career is running aground by the age of 22.
Personally, I think Swift is a little more pop than country. However, she’ll probably be able to just make the switch to country or Christian contemporary when the “teen princess” concert circuit dries up.
I like it when nice people succeed!
Looks like a sweet, well grounded kid.
I had only caught some of the side commentary that stated how Swift’s personality was treacly sweet and phoney.
It reminded me of a few years back when Hootie and the Blowfish went big. I heard people criticizing them for “being phoney” and “too nice”. I read a couple interviews where Hootie talked about their families and how much they liked milk, cookies and Grandmom.
We could use more pop stars that write songs about how much they love their Grannies and I could do without the folks who criticize such celebrities.
Sounds like an interesting combo. Good luck with the band.
My old band played some Sheryl Crow and Jewel (Standing Still), which I think is a great song, if you have a front woman with some pipes.
