Just in from our computer tech.
Last night/early this morning. MS forced an update patch on all Windows users. We know it affected all running XP. It may have hit Vista and 7 as well.
Many users had a forced Windows reboot/restart this morning.
Seems the patch is causing havoc in email systems nationwide. Our computer guy normally gets 8-20 trouble calls a day. So far today, it's more than 250. His affiliates across the country report the same.
Our internet access is fine (as others seems to be to) but emails are very slow (3 to 5 minutes from offices on the same hallaway!)
More as known.
Agreed. They rolled out too many patches at once and bogged down the network, and are now trying to cover their arse by saying MS forced it.
I’m still wondering what kind of problem a person who still uses OUthouse has.
On topic, no forced update, no problems.
Perhaps the OP was a little hysterical with his OMG M$ has borked teh emailz statement.
Bush’s Fault.
I’m not following all your “forced” claims, did you make that up?
Oh Noes, it’s the dreaded Black Screen of Death again.
It’s just the normal second Tuesday patch cycle. It will automatically patch and reboot if that is how the computer is set. It can also be set to “notify only,” or “download and notify.”
No, under some circumstances, some users have set permisisons to allow MS to make changes w/o our permission.
Have turned that off TOTALLY now.

I've got a brace of Exchange servers and about 4K users running Outlook on all 3, and it's been quiet all day.
So they requested that MS download the updates and restart their computers, MS did not force them onto their computer?
That they do plus the son of a friend works for them here in Eureka in the hardware and installation end and he comes by a couple times a year to optimize my system. I just ran a speed test on dslreports.com and got 7965 down & 505 up. Glock is next to a big pipe in SLC and gets unbelievable numbers...
My oldest laptop wasn’t able to shut down on its own this morning after loading the patch, and now the FR posting pane doesn’t work right; (IE 8) the cursor keeps jumping around so that you end up typing gibberish if you’re not looking.
Had no issues at work on two, one desktop, one laptop, will see when I get home. All run XP and Outlook.
If you had an Atari running x-windows, you wouldn’t have this problem.... blah, blah, blah.
No one has to update. The update list (select Custom Install) is editable. I read the list. The Outlook update was for Windows Office Outlook, NOT Outlook Express that comes with XP.
If a systems admin blithely updates an entire company with whatever comes down the pipe without testing it before pushing it out, he deserves the hundreds of phone calls. Duh. More hysteria about XP. Somewhere around here, I had the reason written down why there are more computers on the planet running XP than any other operating system ever.
Then I’m going to announce I can fly, and jump out this window to join the FFL.
Whatever.
