Interesting. I've wondered for decades why Elvis wore a Red Army ushanka. hmmm....

Elvis is wearing that “Red Army ushanka” becuase it is not a “Red Army ushanka” but a standard issue US Army cold weather hat from the 1950s and 60s. There were still some of these around in the 1970s when I was assigned to the 3rd Armored Division in Germany. The crest on the hat is that of the 32nd Armored Regiment, Elvis was assigned to Co D, 1st Bn, 32nd Arm, 3rd Bde, 3rd Armd Div in Friedberg, Germany during his service.

We were issued the identical cold-weather cap in Korea in 1975.
