My iPhone is great except for one thing... AT&T. There are many places even in my area close to the east coast that dont get a decent signal.
Apple will have to go with Verizon to keep their lead in the smart phone industry.
I hear that T-Mobile is coming on board next. And that makes sense since it's a GSM phone network... (and that's the network which most of the world uses).
GSM (Global System for Mobile communications: originally from Groupe Spécial Mobile) is the most popular standard for mobile phones in the world. Its promoter, the GSM Association, estimates that 80% of the global mobile market uses the standard. GSM is used by over 3 billion people across more than 212 countries and territories. Its ubiquity makes international roaming very common between mobile phone operators, enabling subscribers to use their phones in many parts of the world. GSM differs from its predecessors in that both signaling and speech channels are digital, and thus is considered a second generation (2G) mobile phone system. This has also meant that data communication was easy to build into the system. GSM EDGE is a 3G version of the protocol.
Now..., later on, Apple may supply a combo-chip that will access a variety of networks. I hear that may be coming a ways down the line from some reading I've done on it. In that case, then one would be able to hook up to the "minority network" in the world which has the other 20% of the mobile market...
Right now, the Apple iPhone is doing good to start off with the mobile network that 80% of the world's mobile phones use... :-)
Too each his own.As a consumer I have the final decision as to what I want to view or listen to on my IPhone,Apple does not.
And that's why you have the choice to buy another phone if you want... LOL...
What's clear though, is that the consumer market is rushing over to the iPhone because it does what they want to do in an easy fashion (no geeks needed or allowed... :-) ...) and Apple has shown it knows how to give the consumer what they want.
But, for that minority who may want something different, there are always a few niche companies around to supply your needs too...
My ideas for a Free Republic app: Whenever I get a reply on FR, a window will pop up with the entire FR thread.
Or...whenever something is posted to "Breaking News", my iPod goes off with the flashing "Drudge" siren and a click on the siren will bring up the thread. Of course, this has the downside of getting a lot of "I'm buying my first gun, what type of gun should I buy" threads that seem to always get into Breaking News (before the mod finds them and moves them to Chat).
I hope you don’t work for Apple because you have just convinced me to never buy one of their pc’s.You would make a terrible spokesman for. Their company.
As far as Apple go’s they know the technology of their phone so they have NO reason not to develope a capable flash player unit for the phone.
Apple 30%
RIM 40%
Palm 7%
That 77%
That leaves an extra 23% that dont.
40 + 23 + 7 = 70%
70% of smartphone users do not use iPhones.
And this chart is useless as it doesn’t even factor in Android, a future Windows Mobile 7 or heck did the makers of this graph ever hear of Symbian?
Apple 30%
And that's 30% in a market they had nothing at all in -- at the end of June 2007, whereas the others had been there prior to Apple's iPhone entry.
In addition (and in the same manner as some are saying now) -- back then there were pundits that said it was going nowhere and would be a flop. And instead it turned into one of the wildest successes in the market.
Fantastic isn't it!

LOL... as if I believed that...
I did get a good laugh out of it... anyway. A little birdie told me that you already had your mind made up yesterday... :-)
When the Apple Store offers a "Free Republic" app, then I will probably go out and buy one.

Now that would be a cool app, for sure...
I do read Free Republic and reply to a few posts with the iPhone. It's handy that way, too -- on the browser that the iPhone has. It can render regular web pages without problem and zoom into articles on that page.
Iphone
Palm Pre
Blackberry Storm
Android Droid
In all fairness, some of the others have slide out keyboards.
Don't be ridiculous. The iPhone is a bust.
That's what Steve Ballmer told me. And he should know; he's head of Microsoft... :-)
And if you don't believe Steve Ballmer, I mean... just look at him when he's talking to his own developers...
Um, so?
There we pundits that said Windows 7 would be nothing more than Vista part 2, and would be a flop. Since when do chimps with a blog become the source for conventional wisdom?
The point is that 70% dont use iPhones, and 2010 is going to be filled with more competition than ever. That chart shows only modest gains until Apple introduces a new model, that gets fawning saturation coverage and a jump in use as a result.
More competition and choices that arent locked into Apple’s closed system?!?!
Fantastic isn’t it!
More competition and choices that arent locked into Apples closed system?!?!
And the great thing about it is... for Apple products...
It sounds great to me... all right... :-)
T-mobile sucks in my area.
T-mobile sucks in my area.
From what I've read from many different people's comments about different services -- it's that everyone's service sucks to someone... LOL...
And it's unfortunate that it has to be you, in the case, but I'll guarantee you, you will have a line of people who will say that everyone's service sucks to someone... :-)
I’m referring to their network coverage. It won’t work at my place of work or my home. Both Verizon and AT&T work well in my area. Verizon is better at work and AT&T is better at home. Overall, Verizon has much better coverage in northern New England.
I have no idea how god the T-Mobile customer service is. It’s kind of a moot point since it’s not even an option.
Im referring to their network coverage. It wont work at my place of work or my home.
Yeah, and that's precisely the way you're always going to come up with complaints with any service.
Every service has a boundary for where it works and where it doesn't -- and you're always going to find someone on the edge or completely out -- on any and every particular service provider.
Now in your case, you're out of the boundary for a service and in for another one. Another person may be on the edge of the boundary, thereby giving sporadic and non-dependable service. And for the few who will be out of those boundaries for this service, that's unfortunate, but that's the way it's going to be for every service.
The point of the matter is that there is always going to be some people outside of the boundary of every single service provider in the nation... :-)
Now..., what I've found with AT&T is that I've never come across any service outage areas in traveling around the country (except one). Of course, all the users of iPhone do have national roaming, so if AT&T doesn't have the coverage in an area another provider that they have a roaming arrangement with will have the coverage.
That one area where I didn't have coverage was on the Indian Nation Turnpike (part of it, somewhere south of Henryetta and somewhere north of Antlers)
So the maker of this product has decided to not offer its product to the 50,000,000 potential customers who are using either iPhones or iPod touches that might want to look at their product using their mobile devices. Too bad for them... and how stupid of them. They could have selected one of several other just as useful video display formats that WOULD have worked for those potential customers as well as all the others.
If you want on or off the Mac Ping List, Freepmail me.
Take a look at the Verizon, At&T and T-Mobile coverage maps in New Hampshire. Verizon is very good in almost all of the state. AT&T has some very large areas of no coverage and T-Mobile is worse yet.
Pretty much any carrier is good on the highways and in the cities. When you get to Center Barnstead, things change. In my area, the wireless carriers won’t sell to people who don’t live in their coverage area. I guess they don’t want to pay roaming charges for calls made from the home area.
I still think Apple is making a mistake by not being available on the national network with the best coverage.
>>>Yeah, and I’m glad it won’t... :-)<<<<
Of the few plain old web browser issues I encounter, all are Flash related.
