Earnhardt unsure if Danica deal will happen

LAS VEGAS - Dale Earnhardt Jr. says negotiations are still ongoing with Danica Patrick, but he's not sure if a deal will be completed with JR Motorsports.

Earnhardt's team fields Nationwide Series cars and the second-tier series is the likely starting point for the IndyCar driver.

Patrick earlier this week announced a three-year contract extension with Andretti Autosport, and that was believed to be the final hurdle for her to finalize any NASCAR plans.

Patrick, unlike both Montoya and Hornish, has proven herself to be a completely unremarkable driver with a thin record of accomplishment. She has only one career win, and finished no better than 5th last season. Why NASCAR wants to recruit mediocrity into its sport is baffling - that is without the purely "circus" like buzz she'll generate. So much for a meritocracy.

What’s the scoop with JR on this deal? Any info?

I don’t know how serious Patrick is about running the Nationwide Series. She threatened to jump to NASCAR a couple of years back before she squeezed her present deal out of Andretti.

He just said this afternoon about 30 min ago, after winning his 7th MPD award in Vegas, that his sister Kelley is handling the Danica stuff. He’s not involved at all - I’m sure he knows what’s going on.

So, Jr. needs someone on his team to make him look like a winner?

NASCAR is about money, money, money. It doesn’t matter if she’ll suck as a driver. She’ll bring in the cash flow especially the way the economy is.

Patrick has proven herself to be a completely unremarkable driver with a thin record of accomplishment? Perfect teammate for Li’l Dale, then, hayna? Think she’ll be asked to sign a “no-compete” clause in her contract and will promise not to lap NASCAR’s permanently-most-popular driver too often?

She can outdrive me and is pretty nice body and hairwise but this is as ridiculous as giving Darius Rucker who I like but he ain’t no Charlie) the CMT award his first bang.

She finished higher this season than any of her team mates. She also had the highest finish of any driver other than the Ganassi or Penske teams, 5th in points.

Granted, she only has one win but she finished a whole lot higher in points than alot of the so called deserving and experienced drivers.

I think what all you Danica haters should be doing is trying to figure out how the other teams will ever be able to compete with Penske and Ganassi.

Don’t get me wrong though, I don’t think she would put it all on the line in the first turn at Indy on the last lap for the win. Besides, she has a really nice rear end with attachments. She, virtually single handed, has kept the publicity for the IRL churning in the news.

If she was a guy, with her record, she wouldn’t even be considered. Shes all PR and kiddie tantrums.

She needs to be sitting in a Hendrick Motor Sports car to win.

“all you Danica haters”? Back off, Jack. I’ll never hate something that purty. Have you been skimming, instead of reading? I’m just asking that if, as ODH contends, “Patrick has proven herself to be a completely unremarkable driver with a thin record of accomplishment” then she’d be a perfect teammate for Li’l Dale-E? ‘Cause Li’l DE has become, more or less, a completely unremarkable driver with a thin record of recent accomplishment, hayna? Or no?

2 Championships? Are you talking about the Sprint Cup or the Jr level series. 18 victories? That’s funny Hendricks cars finished 1-2-3 in the Sprint cup series(60 year old Mark Martin was #2). Your boy who left the family team for the best still can’t do better then 26th in points or win a race
