To whomever may be interested in yet another school dropping their football program.

Can’t say I’m upset. Education and sports are just about mutually exclusive at this point.
The purpose of college is to educate its students. The purpose of college sports is to raise money from its alumni.

The generous benefits provided to current and retired professors and administrators can’t be cut, so football is.

Truly sad. One of the funniest stories ever, is Bill Cosby describing his game against Hofstra and the description of its players.

Terrible news for our student athletes and fans. Hopefully when the economy turns around(?)...they can revive it. Thanks and keep the faith

Probably the most notable contribution of Hofstra Football was the Bill Cosby routine.

Groucho: "Have we got a college? Have we got a football team?....Well, we can't afford both. Tomorrow we start tearing down the college."
Professors: "But Professor, where will the students sleep?"
Groucho: "Where they always sleep. In the classroom."

FYI:... Notre Dame's football team's contribution to Academics totaled $21.1 million for the 2006-2007 season.

A couple of reasons come to mind...pornographic movie on a team bus which was part of a sexual harassment lawsuit, and the not winning enough games.

College sports has become professional sports. More crap to distract the lemmings as they are led towards sefdom and dhiminitude.

How much of Notre Dame’s money went towards promoting abortion and medals for Islamic abortionists? ND is a scum school.

Actually it was Wayne Chrebet.
Once the Jets left, the school must have lost prospects. A shame. And yes, I am a Hofstra alum.

Well said. The university I am affiliated with is raising undergrad tuition 30+% over this year and the next (grad studies including law and medicine, more), and a number of programs are being cut (not mine, not yet). But the university president, one of the highest paid in the United States, has the temerity to lobby the state legislature for funds to rebuild a football stadium that was remodeled 15 years ago, and the football coach is the state's highest paid employee. The coach makes over 10 times the salary of the governor, state AG, or chief justice. Did I mention this is his first job as Head Coach? I won't mention the school, but I'm pretty disgusted. If this country is to make any progress, it will be through education, not college football. Bread and circuses - I guess if you want to know what's important to you, look at you checkbook.
