Welcome to the Free Republic Nascar Off Season Thread #6 (We've had more off season threads than JJ has wins but one less than Jr's MPD wins :)

Fire up those engines boys and let's go to the awards show

2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champions Week Preview

* Wednesday [Dec 2nd] – The champion’s Las Vegas celebration begins at 10:00am/pt with the Chasers for Charity Fanfest at Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Neon Garage. The free-admission portion of the event includes a red-carpet walk by the champion and other 2009 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup drivers, car displays, live music, reduced-price concessions and a raffle drawing. A Charity Roast of Johnson will be held at 1:30pm/pt in the speedway’s Blackjack Club and is open to the first 300 people who respond (information at www.lvms.com). A $250 tax-deductible donation to Speedway Children’s Charities includes a private reception with Johnson and Chase participants plus reserved seats and parking. The event will be shown on closed-circuit television in the Neon Garage.

* Thursday [Dec 3rd] – The annual NASCAR NMPA Myers Brothers Awards event will be held from 1:00-2:45pm/pt in the Venetian Showroom at The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino. Johnson will be joined by the rest of the top 12 drivers in the 2009 Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, plus Raybestos Rookie of the Year Joey Logano and other annual award winners. (MPD will be awarded as well - guess they forgot)

Race fans will get to see Johnson and fellow Chase drivers participate in a Victory Lap parade in their show cars on Las Vegas Boulevard – the city’s legendary “Strip” – beginning at 3:15pm/pt at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. “Mr. Las Vegas,” Wayne Newton, will drop the green flag to start the event. The lap includes a pit stop and “burnout” at the Spring Mountain Road intersection before returning to the MGM Grand at 4:00pm/pt. SIRIUS NASCAR Radio will carry live coverage of the Victory Lap.

Following the Victory Lap, fans will have the opportunity to have their questions answered by the Chase drivers at the NASCAR After the Lap Presented by Tissot from 4:30-5:30pm/pt (doors open at 3:00pm) at the MGM/Hollywood Theater.

This week, fans will be able to submit their questions via Street Tour, AFLAC Pit Stop and Twitter to their favorite Chase drivers and hear the drivers respond to those questions at this event. SIRIUS NASCAR radio will broadcast the event live and NASCAR.com will be producing a Video on Demand that will be available on its website afterwards.

The Tissot Watch presentation to the top 12 drivers will also take place at this event.

That evening, from 7:00-9:00pm/pt, Johnson and other Chase drivers will join Tony Stewart at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino as he presents the third annual “Stewie Awards,” live on SIRIUS NASCAR Radio. The event, which honors the best, boldest and funniest moments of the 2009 NASCAR season, will take place at the Rio’s Masquerade Village and is open to the public.

* Friday [Dec 4th] – Johnson formally accepts his 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship awards. He, his family and his Hendrick Motorsports team will participate in traditional photos during the afternoon, before attending the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Awards Ceremony that evening at Wynn’s Las Vegas. SPEED will televise the event live from 6:00 pm -10:00pm/pt (9:00pm - 1:00am/et). SIRIUS NASCAR Radio 128 and MRN Radio will also broadcast the ceremony live nationwide.

I don’t know if snow counts or not. They keep trying to predict it this way too, but I highly doubt it.

Of course, I have to go north that day. :(

I agree with you and DW. I read his comments and hope NASCAR did as well. I wouldn't say that NASCAR has entered into a death spiral, but it needs help.

Personally, I'd like to see less NASCAR induced PC, no restrictor plates and a car that looks like something I'd see on the highway. And get rid of that damn wing!

The new Nationwide car is a big step in the right direction if it drives well and the drivers like it.

I actually got my NASCAR fix last weekend. I was in Charlotte for Thanksgiving and visited Lowe’s Motor Speedway on black Friday. They were selling stuff cheap: Hats & T-shirts for $3, sweatshirts for $5.

I went to work this morning.

My boy calls me at 7:15, "this and this and this is happening at the track today - did you know about this?" - nope - "Well come home from work and lets go to the track!" - can't do that dude, working!

He calls 45 minutes later, "Did you know that Dale Jarrett is doing a 30 minute Q & A?"............as soon as the boss ok's it, I'm on my way.

Working on the pics to post right now - lots of them.

Just unreal, what a freakin' time!!!!!!!!

WCG, DJ shook my hand and signed my UPS #88 hat, looked at me and said, "nice hat!"

The Boy wore his Dale Jr jacket - now signed by JJ and Jeff Gordon, missed MM (he wanted all three HMS teammates but gave Mark his hat to sign by mistake.

An unbelievable NASCAR day....the top 12 drivers up close and personal...and these guys are great...took time to talk to you...all of them!

The boy even said, "I've gained a whole lot of respect for some drivers that I did not like!"

Pics will be posted shortly....or tommorow (26 pics)

I think, the best ever.

As these guys walked by, fans ask questions - without fail all of them stopped / turned back to face the person - and talked to them / signed anything, etc.

Carl Edwards - my boy tried to get his attention for an autograph, came over and was signing for the boy, looked at me and said, "DJ is a great guy!" (my DJ hat) I said, "you are one heck of driver yourself! Best of luck next year." And he said, "Thank you for the thought!"

Earlier in the DJ Q&A, someone asked DJ, "who is tops on your list for respect, as a driver and a person?" DJ said, "Carl Edwards"....Jamie Little also talked about what drivers are good with interviews or not....top on her list was....Carl Edwards.

I told the boy, once the word gets out about this, you won’t get close next year.....this was a once in a life time deal.
