United Way makes no sense. Why do I need them as a middle man to give to any of the charities they advocate?

If you're a federal government employee, you should already know that the Consolidated Federal Campaign is the same thing. A middle man group with a large number of rogue agencies under its belt.

I know. It was Combined Federal Campaign, by the way. And it was the same as United Way. A way for gubmint agencies to say "See how wonderful we are". Arrogance. No reason to exist.

If they were righteous, they would simply promote charitable giving, without the need for money-sucking middle men.
