Tiger’s good-guy image manufactured from start
NY Post ^ | 11/30/09 | PHIL MUSHNICK

We ca never allow it to be only what it is. Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer in the history of the game. We can’t stop there. No, he’s also the world’s greatest human.

And to suggest anything less means you’re the one with the problem. Hmmm, perhaps you even have a problem with the color of Tiger’s skin. Team Tiger, you may recall, dropped that hint, early.

So if you know what’s good for you, stick with the story, especially you TV guys: Greatest golfer, greatest human. Got it? Now don’t forget it.

But the world’s greatest golfer has a lot in common with all of us. He has character flaws. We’re just not supposed to know that the world’s greatest human is human.

NBC News’ Kristen Dahlgren on Saturday, described Woods as the man with the “golden touch and sterling reputation.” Of course, she did. Why would she think or report otherwise?

It comes as thin surprise that Woods and Team Woods have been less than cooperative with authorities in the three days following his 2:25 a.m. domestic car wreck/whatever the heck happened. From the time he was 15, he was taught to beat the rules.

Tiger has always played the "Cablanasian" card to the hilt. He could have defused the situation and he didn't. Played right into the hands of the PC crowd.

I've seen him in person on the tour. He can act like a spoiled brat at times. Many times.

I learned golf etiquette when I was 12. But the rules aren't for everybody, especially when they advance the PC agenda.

Woods took offense when it was clearly a joke. Not a very PC joke, but a joke. Fuzzy was being his good old boy self. Tiger was a puss.

And he still is. The theatrical eye rolling, the club tossing, the swearing. Great role model, huh?

He thinks he's entitled. No surprise; his father used him since he was two years old.

When ones actions are indefensible one does not fight back. I’m so very glad I love my wife and would do nothing to alter our relationship. Least of all for a piece of tail.

Under what circumstances would you find it necessary to whoop your wife?

It is not illegal in Florida for Woods to refuse to speak to the police on this matter. What rules is he circumventing? So, since he is not doing anything wrong, are you ready to admit wrongdoing for circumventing the rules of civility by accusing someone of something they did not do?

If Woods called 911, HE MADE it police business.

A neighbor, who heard the crash and saw Tiger laying in the street unconscious called 911.

"The Woods supporters are willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until all the TRUE facts come out and all the folks envious of his wealth and stardom will never ever believe the real facts when they DO come out....."

I think it takes a ballsy, broad brush to paint people as "envious of his wealth and stardom", when they express legitimate concerns about the possibility of people driving recklessly, under the influence, or engaging in acts of felonious domestic violence. All serious allegations and all crimes that frequently result in death. Just saying.

Tiger has a Constitutional right to not cooperate with authorities. And, the people presiding in the court of public opinion - the court that Tiger has become a billionaire selling products to - have the right to draw whatever conclusion they wish from that lack of cooperation. We're sitting in our living rooms, not the jury box.

"Funny how all of Tiger Woods troubles started after turning down a golf game with Dear Leader in Taxachusetts. Must be something in the water."

I hadn't heard that. So, Tiger played a round with Deval "I'm the next Barack Obama" Patrick. That's not encouraging.

well I think the cops have no business doing anymore investigation..there was no alcohol, no one was hurt except woods himself, and he has enough money to pay for all damages...

cops keeping it up so they can be big shots....

having said all that, I never rooted for woods....I never root for any of the priviledged and protected athletes or celebrities they throw at us....whether it be woods or oprah or faith hill or zero or any of them....

Whatever went on at the Woods home, it is wrong to compare the non accomplishments of 0bama to the successes of Woods. Love him or hate him, Tiger has worked hard to achieve the wins he has and he has, by extension, urged other golf pros to push themselves harder as well. Tiger has earned every cent he has..no one gave him the championship wins, he earned them. 0bama is someone’s puppet.
Let Tiger and his family sort out their mess. They don’t need all of us piling on him. And by the way, everyone assumes Tiger is the guilty party...since none of us out here know what happened and were not there and are not the Almighty conjecture is all that this is at this point. How about we go on to comment on more important things like the destruction of our nation.

Yeah alot of this is based on jealousy. Woods is the golden boy of my generation and when you’re on top people can’t wait to take you down a notch. I thought he always downplayed the racial stuff despite the constant urging of the PC liberal sports media. He has always been very private and IMO rather bland away from the golf course plus he continually backed up his image with stellar play. Can’t fault him for that. The guy messed around on his wife and she got pissed. Maybe it was a full blown international bang-a-thon or maybe it’s just some floozy and her friends exaggerating some minor flirtation. Either way, not exactly a unique story.
