Notre Dame hasn’t been relevant for 20 years and hasn’t been a recruiting powerhouse for a generation. Sportswriters and media types are going to have to realize that about 20-25 schools are ahead of the Irish on the recruiting front and on field performance.

I guess the old ideal of Notre Dame being a perennial powerhouse and one recruiting class away from a national championship die hard.

Yep. The Irish have the same problem that the Military academies, Northwestern, Stanford, and a few other quality schools have: Their players have to attend the school and pass.

I’m a Buckeye fan, and I’d be willing to bet that it’s much, MUCH easier to get a kid through some stupid program at OSU than it is to get a kid through Notre Dame.
