Christian Side Hug is YouTube hit as celibate rappers warn of 'sinful' hugging

A celibacy-advocating rap group has been advocating “Christian side-hugs” in a hit YouTube song, because frontal hugs are “sinful”, reports Tom Chivers.

Gimme Dat Christian Side Hug, by a band of rappers apparently linked to a Californian ministry called The Father’s House, advocates standing side-by-side when hugging, to avoid the uncontrollable temptation that hugging face-to-face – and therefore crotch-to-crotch – would lead to.

“This ain’t no front hug zone,” proclaims one of the rappers, who goes on to warn listeners that front hugs should only be permitted after marriage, adding: “Jesus never hugged nobody like that”. Unfortunately for Bible scholars, the performer fails to give scriptural chapter and verse to back up his claim.

Similarly, holding hands goes too far if it is outside the blessed union of wedded bliss: “I’m a married man. You know I can’t hold hands.”

I'm not quite sure what to think of this. Yes, resisting peer pressure and temptation is important, but this seems to combine a very skewed adaptation of popular culture with a message of dubious religious veracity.

Check link for the video of the performance.

I really can’t wait until rap is dead. They are just awful.

And no, a standard hug is not sinful.

I think it’ll take a while to fully kill rap and hip hop.

Maybe in its last moments, there could be one final epic assault by rock and metal bands to destroy rap.

Even though power metal bands will write about that for years to come...

This is nothing more than a caricature of Christian morality. Ridiculous. Making Christianity look stupid is rarely a good thing.

Should I feel dirty about the hug I gave my grandmother on Thanksgiving?

“This is nothing more than a caricature of Christian morality. Ridiculous. Making Christianity look stupid is rarely a good thing.”

I wondered if it were a parody at first, but that’s an awfully large audience to record a YouTube clip for parody, and major media outlets have been in contact with the originators who apparently are recognized “educators”.

Unusual beliefs reach a certain point where they’re basically indistinguishable from parody, and I think these Rough Ridas have surpassed that point and reached the “you have to prove to me that it’s _not_ parody” point.

A lot of commentators have quoted Titus 1:15 in rebuttal to these folks’ claims of immorality in hugging: “Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.”

Christian rappers and rockers are lame beyond description. Rap and Rock are styles that demand anger and vulgarity in their theme, which is antithetical to a Xtian message of love and forgiveness.
Bands with a Christian message should stick to hymns and folk music, which better suits the kind of lyrics and tone of the Christian message...

I’ll tell you what, I could sure do without man hugs. They’re not a sin, but they sure are creepy. When I’m departing and people are giving out hugs, I always extend my hand for a hand shake, and say “Just a ‘hand hug’ for me, thanks”.

It sure creeps me out when the doc does it after giving me a prostate exam.

Not much “Christian” about that rap group. I’d never let my children listen to that trash.

I recall when the Southern Baptist Convention stated that it was forbidden to have sexual relations in a standing position.

The reason?

It *just* might lead to DANCING!!!
