I strongly disagree. There is never any excuse for physical violence in a relationship. He may have been unfaithful. He may have hurt her emotionally. Once you open the door to violence, the door cannot be closed. His behavior may be grounds for divorce but there is no criminal behavior nor should we have laws to criminalize this behavior. There are barbaric societies that criminalize his alleged behavior but I would not want to be part of those societies.

Omg, I'm not saying it's justified. It isn't, ever. And I'm not saying that I want to see legislation signed next week, although there ARE already laws in place that allow damages for emotional suffering and distress. So it's not like it's never been part of the legal system.

As someone who's been through something like this, it's wishful thinking, ok? Something that might make people getting ready to break marriage vows, damage the family unit and weaken it, and cause all sorts of issues, it might be nice to know there was a financial deterrent, that might make people stop and think, since money is the only thing that makes some people stop and think. But it's just WISHFUL THINKING on my part.
