For the shingles? I didn't take anything. My mother had a really bad case last year and she wasn't prescribed any kind of narcotic for the pain. She was prescribed a mild nerve sedative.

You are determined to avoid the point and nothing you have said contradicts it in the least. Everyone who takes a heavy narcotic often enough in a big enough dose will become addicted.
