Dog in a BP shirt greets customers at Clearwater store

The sequence of events happens dozens of times every day at the BP gas station/convenience store at U.S. 19 at Nursery Road.

An unsuspecting customer pulls up to the drive-through window. But instead of a store clerk, up pops two paws, deep brown eyes and the tongue-flapping grin of a happy chocolate Labrador retriever named Cody.

Kids in the back seats of minivans often squeal with joy.

Even the usually stony faces of gruff construction worker-types can't help but crack a smile under the dog's unpretentious greeting.

"He hears the bell and goes running. When he pops up, that sets it off," said Karim Mansour, the store's and dog's owner. "Uncontrollable giggling."

From my experience, Clearwater has far too many power-hungry-nazis in all levels of the municipality.

They are out of control and make everyone's life miserable.

Another update: Customers, readers defend Cody the store dog

Every store should have a dog or cat. Some of us without
pets would appreciate it.

I LOVE your pics!! We have two furbabies - both dogs. One was abandoned. He’s a Chow mix. The other is a poodle mix. Looks like you rescue, too! Bless you for your love of the beasties. (Can’t imagine anyone not realizing that animals don’t have parasites if they are cared for and are up to date on their shots, prevention, etc...)

Great post, Don! Can’t believe some here have such hatred towards animals and are so uninformed as to believe well-cared for pets have parasites! WOW! What can you say to that kind of nonsense?!

Did you rescue them all? I am assuming you got them at different times and not all at once...Thanks for sharing those pics! I love to see animals with their people!

Three would probably have never lived past puppyhood and the Pomeranian would have died in the street where I found her. The two little black ones would have never been born.

They are all so special and different in their own way. The pit mix is the sweetest and smartest dog I have ever had.

Here is my grandson and Pooper.

Precious! Bless you again for rescuing those who can’t fend for themselves. Pat them all for me - but give an extra “pat” to your pit bull mix!
