we know where the voice that spoke those things comes from.

Pretty obvious isn’t it?

And comments like that make it all the more puzzling that they now want to be considered Christians.

My guess is that they want to be considered Christians for the sake of converts.

It gives then the cloak of respectability to the outside world.

It is strictly for PR reasons.

For years being better than and separate from mere “Christians” was a draw. You would never see or hear the word Christian used anywhere in or around the LDS.

Then they went overseas after tapping out the market in the states back in the 70s and 80s.

Overseas they found “Christan” was a great brand name.

Now they are the best “Christians” on the planet.

That is a very good list of the Sociological reasons why Mormonism is a cult. An FB friend of mine sent me this on the THEOLOGICAL aspects of a cult.

MARKS OF A CULT

1. Extra-Biblical revelation. (BoM, Pearl of Great Price, Doctrine and Covenants).

2. Salvation by works. (”we are saved after all we can do”)

3. Uncertain Hope. (Try asking a Faithful Mormon if they are going to get into the Celestial Kingdom. They will ALWAYS respond with something like “I hope so”.)

4. Presumptuous Messianic leadership. (Joseph Smith’s restoration of the only “gospel” that will get people back into the presence of God)

5. Doctrinal ambiguity. (A prophet is a prophet only when he is speaking as such).

6. Denunciation of others. (see above post)

7. Claim to special discoveries. (temple rites and rituals, secret handshakes, etc)

8. Defective Christology. (Jesus is our “older brother” and had to earn His Godhood.)

9. Segmented Biblical attention. (Taking scripture out of context)

10. Entangling organizational structure. (Engulfing

a person into a web of entrapment)

11. Financial and time exploitation (One of the temple oaths is to dedicated “all of your time, talents and money” to the building up of the LDS church)

That’s because of the family values image they put up front and they speak the lingo.

Why do you present these 11 things as though they are bad?

I know that if I had control over my money and my time and my associates, I’d probably be out at a bar or someplace this very evening!

Wow! A Facebook friend of yours sent you that? How authoritative! You folks have really been a hoot on this thread. with all the distortions, misrepresentations, evasions, etc., do you guys really know how you're seen by others?

Well, thanks to the cabal for yet another enlightening conservative thread. Way to pull us all together! /Sarc

Perhaps I should have been more clear. A friend (who is also on FB), forwarded me the list, she did not write it. The points (minus my LDS commentary) are standard marks of a cult.

And the LDS is the epitome of distortions, lies, misrepresentation, evasions, and the like. But you know that don’t you.

Yeh,it is amazing what the lds pr machine does to gloss over the truth of mormonism. Are you here to add more distortions, misrepresentations and evasion on behalf of lds inc.?

Ah Reno...

Of course you offer nothing to dispute the “distortions, misrepresentations, evasions, etc”...

I also notice that you avoid addressing post 1308, certain a post chock full of "distortions" the real world calls direct quotes.

And you have these “others’ like our “other” friend.

D.I.D. must be epidemic...

You notice that he doesn’t show up when the thread is really going. He waits until it has died down to make an appearance.

Actually, I’ve been quite busy w/ family in town & didn’t even notice the thread till today. Your crystal ball seems to be a bit dingy. Typical. You know about as much about my visits to this forum as you do the church. Have fun guys

I'm suprised he even showed up at all. Must have been too busy getting ready for smithmas.

I know more about the LDS than you apparently do, that is why I am an EX Mormon.

Pay Lay Ale, anyone?

“Of course you offer nothing to dispute the “distortions, misrepresentations, evasions, etc”...”

Of course, you know that I’ve had battles w/ you guys on numerous occassions over these issues, so to keep insisting that I’ve never given evidence is kind of silly don’t you think?

Don’t feel like making this a 2000 post thread so take care & keep up all that conservative work you’re doing on these threads :)

Unfortunately, your posts belie the fact.
