Whenever events seem to be worldwide in impact, I always look for parallels to what I find in Bible prophesy. One thing the Bible is quite clear on: it will get MUCH worse before it gets better.
And of that, we can be sure.

Also: biblically speaking, the relatively good times we have had since WWII — and especially since the Iron Curtain fell — are the anomaly, not the norm. Man’s lot includes a great deal of suffering, as the Lord promised it would. We brought it on ourselves through sin.
However, thanks to Jesus the (eternal) long term future is quite bright. :-)
