It's sleek, it's fast, and it's reinforced with a ton of bullet-proof Kevlar armour.
The mean-looking Ady Gil is the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's newest weapon in their ongoing battle against Japanese whalers.
The trimaran - previously known as Earthrace - recently set the world powerboat record for circumnavigation.

Looks like a boat begging for a torpedo.
Damn.
So, riddle me this Batman.... How can you drive a carbon-fuel-based vehicle around the world, and wind up with zero emissions?
"Net Zero" to me, sounds like fudged accounting.
I like Canadian Capt Paul Watson of the Sea Shep Society.
He had major battles with the Sierra Club saying they were essentially shills for the DNC who wanted open borders. The original Sierra Clue was against sprawl and open borders.

The theory is that the carbon-based fuel acquired its carbon from the atmosphere recently during creation of said fuel, was burned, and returned the same carbon back to the atmosphere. Free CO2 is absorbed into a plant, plant is converted to biodiesel, biodiesel is burned, emissions consists of same carbon atoms absorbed not long before. Net atmospheric carbon change: zero.
I wonder how effective Kevlar would be against a harpoon cannon?
I also note that it is prop driven. Guess what happens to a small submarine that gets its prop fouled on a net?
Nothing. That is, it has to blow its ballast and surface, sitting there, wistfully, until divers can get its prop cleared. And if the net it weighted, it can’t surface.
I bet sonar men half an ocean away would suddenly turn pale, hearing the sound of a boat descending past crush depth.
I’ve actually watched the show - The captain of the Sea Shepard is a pirate by my estimate. He is also pretty much an Eco Idiot! Their “campaigns” have been pretty much useless, and this year they got completely stumped by the Japanese fleet’s defensive maneuverer of hanging tall netting around their ships. The Sheppard’s typical attack method was to throw bueteric acid (sp?) onto the working areas of the Japanese processing ship. Their bottles can get there anymore with the netting. Further, they were ordered by the Danes who register the Steve Irwin to not throw things from the ship anymore. Of course they eventually violated the Danish order.
These guys are idiotic pirates.
That sounds like a fun challenge for the Japanese, discover all the creative ways you can sink this boat.
I won’t shed a tear for the Sea-Shepard hippies.
By paying Pope Al Goreacle 1 $10K in "Carbon Indulgences" to forgive them of their carbon sins.
Whats the carbon footprint from building the thing?
These guys are terrorists and they are treated by our media as heroes. If I was Japan, I would treat their attacks as an act of terrorist aggression and destroy them.
I’m all for allowing ships to be defensively armed
I’m in favor of giving western navies the right to conduct trials and exclusions of pirates on the high seas as well
Yea, but Watson’s complaint is they aren’t left enough. He falls into the same camp as Al Gore’s buddy who formed NumbersUSA, wanting to close the borders, not for security (although they promote that now) but to reduce the population of the world to ‘save the planet’. In addition to completing shutting down all international immigration, he calls for highly restrictive reproduction including the promotion of abortion to reduce the planet’s population.
Look up some of Roy Beck’s old “Sustainable Society” papers. Very disturbing s***. Here are a few to dig through.
