When will people realize that a pedophile is a person attracted to prepubescent children, not pubescent children or adolescents? For the record, it also rankles me when people say “monkey” when referring to an ape.

You might as well give up on that one. In common usage it’s come to mean an older person attracted to someone below the age of consent.
Which in many American states means 17 year old girls. Which makes most healthy men around the world pedophiles, if you take the terms literally.
