I think this resembles the plot of The Deer Hunter, actually.

It seems like the only reason people go to the movies anymore is for the sax and violins.

Another liberal movie where the poor black person is helped by the do good white person. How many are there? THOUSANDS. There’s one coming out with Sandra Bullock I see being advertised. Do you guys understand what I’m saying? It’s the same formula...the oppressed minority, down on his luck because of evil America suddenly meets up to some white liberals who helps the minority be all he/she can be and then everyone cries at the end and liberals walk away feeling good. As opposed to the conservative movies where the person pulls him/herelf up by his own bootstraps and succeeds ON THEIR OWN MERIT.

That was my best impersonation through text the sound of a Buick’s starter cranking; which is almost EXACTLY what Phantom of Krankor’s laugh sounds like.

Maybe you’re right, but “The Soloist” is a true story.
And not a perfect happy ending, either ~ the guy is still on the street.

The guy in “Shine” had a nervous breakdown, but he played the piano, so that probably isn’t the one......

They spent millions on a movie about him and he is still broke and homeless? You’ve got to love Hollywood liberals!

I think
The Blindside is being referred to. Also a true, and contemporary, story.
