"V" the Movie/Series (the first installment on Hulu.com)
Hulu.com ^ | 11/8/2009

I watched "V" for the second time today on Hulu.com. I know some folks didn't enjoy it, but I thought it was nicely paced, well written, and well acted.

It was also impressive for its timely Obama references. Additionally, I was surprised by the parallel of the "Visitor" lies and those of the Obama administration. Both seem to think that their "end" justifies their "means". Both the Visitors and the Obama administration are excellent liars...and for the same reasons!

Here's the link to Hulu (vy impressive and timely IMO)>>>

V on Hulu.com.

They pretty much crammed through a season’s worth of revelations in 44 minutes of content. The pacing was terrible. They actually had a scene where a guy stood around for a couple of minutes and just told us stuff.

More talented writers would have set up clues and given rewarding payoffs as the 13 episode season progressed.

And Jeeves and Wooster was 24 episodes over four seasons. Three great seasons, mostly out of gas and too goofy by the end of season 4.

I’m wondering if this show is going to jump around with flashbacks like Lost. Part of what made the original V such a great miniseries was the buildup to the unveiling of the visitors. “V” could work well using flashback in that a lot of aliens are “already among us planning our doom” :-).

But in reality, we already know the V are reptiles. So, perhaps, the writers thought they didn’t need to build up to something most of the viewers already knew. So, reveal it and get on with their story...

Thank you very much for showing us how we can see “V” (hopefully all four episodes as they come out) on Hulu. I saw it on Amazon a few days ago, and want to see all the other episodes as they come out.

However, we all (including me) have to get realistic about “V”:

....The script was written by [recently demoted Scott] Peters during the Bush administration and started before Mr. Obama clinched the nomination.....Mr. Peters, besides being a talented writer and director is a gay man, legally married in California, and a liberal supporter of the President who worked for and donated money to the his campaign..... Mr. Peters, who was born in Canada, recently became an American citizen; a process he tried to expedite so he could vote for Mr. Obama, a deadline he missed by two days.....

http://blog.infinitemonkeysblog.com/?q=node/6793

As with the original 1980s “V”, the updated and restyled 2009 version is about a totalitarian takeover, masked by promises of “change” and “hope”, and even “universal health care”. Most people drink the Kool-Aid, and the totalitarian Visitors manipulate the media to help that process along. The “benevolent”-seeming Visitors abuse the devotion of most earthlings to further their real purpose—to eat us all.

The idea of aliens coming to Earth to eat us has been a theme in several science-fiction shows, notably “To Serve Man” on the Twilight Zone. So “V”, although a gripping and well-done (both the 1983 and 2009 version) variation on that theme, is not really totally original. “To Serve Man” was much too early to be written about obama.

However, obama and his administration fits the Visitors on “V” to a T. That’s not because “V” was written about obama, but because obama is totalitarian, and his “benevolent”-sounding “health” care and other programs are designed to kill tens of millions of us and to destroy our country as we know it!!

The fact that “V” was NOT written about obama, but obama and his minions looks almost exactly like the lizards, makes obama look even worse than if “V” had been written about obama!!!! It is no wonder that obama’s stooges have demoted Scott Peters, and will probably work to either change the show drastically or make sure that it never gets beyond four episodes.

I was evaluating the film in light of the fact that it has only 2 more episodes this season (IIRC). I was worried that a film with this much parallel to our corrupt White House might not even be able to stay on the air until its climax.

Therefore, my primary concern for pacing was that it get the material out there.

And you are certainly correct that a good writer could have lingered and tempted viewer with hints and clues by revealing the story as part of the action. Having a character simply tell so much of the story in what was basically nothing more than a monologue was pure literary heresy.

That said, my excitement here is that the pacing is quick enough to hold most TV viewers attention (read attention span of a gnat) and the story, politically dangerous as it is, is revealed before the administration brings pressure to kill it.

I saw a video of the original half-hour “To Serve Man” last night. It was based on a 1950 short story, and aired in 1962, when obama was only a toddler. So it could not have possibly been written about obama.

However, it suits the obama administration and its evil plans to a T!!!!

I found it strange that Anna claimed they came here for some of our water then goes on to describe her planet as being covered in oceans like ours.

????

Good catch!

The more I watch her character, the more she seems to be a compulsive liar (like Obama).

I can't imagine that the writers and editors would, after pouring over the script, leave an obvious conflict like the one you mentioned in the story unless there was a reason.

I don’t see the need for water as much of a contradiction, as they probably only carry so much on a starship, and need to replenish occasionally (less than perfect recycling).
