I didn't hurt my knee, but like this young lady, was a line drive hitter in college, never once hitting anything more than a double and ended my career with a .352 BA. A few years later, I ended up playing against my college softball coach in a slow pitch tournament. She was pitching. And I hit my first ever home run off her. It cleared the fence with lots of room to spare. I can not express the joy at hitting a first home run. I hit another one a few innings later but was called out due to the home run rule. After the game, my coach came up to me and said, 'I never thought I'd ever see you hit a home run.' Then gave me a big hug.
I've never forgotten that day. So I'm touched to see opposing players help this young lady have the same, unforgettable feeling.
What is "the home run rule"?
Thanks,
LH
