You still have many data center customers that avoid AMD. With the Nehalem EX around the corner, Intel is still preferred by many in the vm world. Pooled CPUs is not really new, in fact I’d prefer a proven Egenera PAN solution.
No, it's not new. It's the base technology for SMP, in fact. My company installs SMP machines and clusters--and we're about to install a cluster of SMPs.
