"The Stars and Stripes Forever" was later named by Congress as the "National March of the United States" and many concert bands play it under that name today. It is customary for the audience to rise as it begins, and it is hard to imagine any American not wanting to do so.

As a former Sousaphone player, I still do all the bass riffs in my head as bits and pieces of his marches are played in TV shows, commercials and movies.

It is hard to keep one's foot still when a Sousa march is played.

Ignorant me, didn’t even know there were lyrics for “The Stars and Stripes Forever.”
