Meg, When my parents died in 1994/1996 I decided I must do what ever it took to keep the extended family together of sisters/bil's and nieces, etc. Instead of the formal sitdown dinner, I created a Fall Harvest style Thanksgiving. Hubby went and brought in bales of hay, and my brother in law made a scarecrow. I put 6 huge tables on our lawn covered in red/white check gingham clothes, and we played " how-down" music.

It was such a hit that the cousins decided it must continue. It has for the past 13 years. This year will be our last. Physically I can't keep it up any longer.

I truly am going to miss the tradition.

We will have two large turkeys and two turkey breasts, along with dressing, yams, potatoes, the works!

Sounds like a wonderful tradition, Polly, but I understand there does come a time to slow down. We don’t always like it, but its a must! Maybe someone else will carry on for you!
