I was asked today after church why do we need silence when we prayed. I thought about that later today and came up with this.

Why in Silence

Silence is needed to heal the soul
peace in which it begins to regrow
Time in which it can be made whole
and truths in which we come to know

Time enough for grief to dull and fade
and for you to grasp the frame of life
A place in which to accept all fate made
to find the golden strand amid the strife

Let the silence fill you and remake you
let the time smooth the edges raw to worn
Reach out for that peace you need, oh do
let gentled time fix all that fate has torn
