The Germans used Cavalry VERY effectively in Russia, mostly for advance Recon and penetration raids, in the fluid south.

In the North, the lines had pretty much settled in winter 41, and stayed that way until the Jan 44.

The Russians had FAR more cav throughout the war, but wasted in largely attacking entrenched positions.

Did the Flint sail or not? Inquiring minds want to know.

She's sailing hither and yon. Check out reply #7 on the 10/9/39 post for a summary of her movements.

Surprised no one else followed up on the Erebus. Looks like Churchill was successful in keeping it under British control, but spent much of the war in the Med.

I believe Hermann Fegelein served with, and perhaps commanded, “Florian Geyr”. According to the History Channel’s series on the SS, Fegelein was with the SS cavalry in the Pripyet Marshes, and was involved in massacring Jews there.

He was Himmler’s liaison to Fuehrer Headquarters later in the war, and was married to Eva Braun’s sister. Shot for desertion on Hitler’s orders. Last person I know of personally interrogated by “Gestapo” Mueller.
