The snake was almost five feet long! It could kill a small child like a python!

As for the rat stuck in the sidewalk, what’s to be done?

What’s to be done?

Snakes are cool. I’ve come across plenty of rattlesnacks and never needed to kill any.

If a real rat was in this situation I would first see if there was something easy to do to free it without touching it, etc. If not, and it could not be witnessed, I would kill it with my knife to put it out of its misery. (I had to do that to a pet cat once that got injured by a car - hard to do until you see it suffering).

If a crowded sidewalk with witnesses, sorry rat - you can die a slow and painful death before I’ll put myself on the line for “animal abuse” charges.

WHAT? Kill a child like a python? Just don’t know where to start with all that.

5’ is not nearly big enough to pose a constricting risk, even to a child.

Even my own ‘big boy’, currently at 7 1/2’ is not a risk. The snake must be big enough and the ‘prey’ small enough, that the snake sees it is a food item. No small child is going to be a food item for a 5’ snake.

Sorry, no need for killing, or unfounded hysteria here.
