“This has to be a joke article.”

No joke. GenX failed to learn and were coddled. GenY is so damned unfit to live adult lives they are a bother to businesses. They must be told what a great job they are doing every day and they cry and act out if anyone talks above their understanding as that is just talking to them in a “condescending way”. They “feel bad” and get angry. I’ve had more than one “parent” call after I failed to make their darling brat a job offer. Needless to say the meddling idiots got both barrels from me.

“Time to get cracking on getting these guys JOBS!”

We don’t owe them jobs! They can start their own damned business, but don’t you dare say WE somehow owe them jobs. Where is it written that a person must work for a large corporation?

Yup. I love my boys, but there will come a day when they’ll be out and on their own and I’ll be enjoying it. I’ve raised them to adulthood and while they’ll still always be my ‘kids’, I want them to be **adult** kids. If a person hasn’t figured out how to do an interview by the time they’ve graduated from college, well... I really don’t want a 35 year old still living at home with me because I’ve always babied them and they can’t do anything on their own (a la’ Stepbrothers).

“Let me remind you there are 20 million young men in this country without jobs. You help them or they will find themselves self-organizing into armed militias “

Get real. They don’t have the ability to feed themselves but somehow they’ll be a major military power? They’ll cry themselves to sleep first.

It is truly. I was at a seminar with other HR people and we were comparing notes on the parents. The general consensus was that if adult children could not interview and find a job without the parents, what were they going to do if they had to make a big work decision without them?

We were unimpressed.

What do they do when the boss tells them to go to Europe or South America or somewhere in the US to go to the meeting or visit the company office? Bring Mommy along for moral support?

That's just it, who knows what they would do if a situation was in the making.

The problem with Helicopter Parents, it shows that the kid can't or doesn't know how to make an adult decision, it severely impacts that young adult and whether or not an employer is going to take the risk of hiring them. It gives the impression that not only are you hiring the individual, but their parents as well.

Many company managers and owners do not want to be second guessed by a third party individual that has no say in what happens.
