Authorities investigate high school 'fight club'

Seven male students at Vinton County High School have been suspended as authorities investigate a "fight club" that featured rumbles in school bathrooms and videos on YouTube.

School officials were tipped to the pre-arranged fights after videos of the brawls were captured on cell phones and posted on YouTube, an Internet site that features videos.

Sheriff Dave Hickey said today that deputies are continuing to investigate to determine if more students are involved. Evidence will be given to the county prosecutor's office for consideration of potential criminal charges, he said.

None of the students apparently were injured during the series of fights, which apparently began last month, the sheriff said. School officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Hickey said the school has a "zero-tolerance" policy toward violence that mandated suspension of the students. The high school is near McArthur, about 60 miles south of Columbus.

Wouldn't posting videos on YouTube violate the first rule? Sort of?

maybe I'm just nuts but why can't boys be allowed to have a fair fist fight?....

I don't mean for them to seriously injure themselves, but isn't fist fighting better than spraying bullets at each other?

Because they’re boys...and things get out of control. The venues are unsupervised and often inappropriate - such as locker rooms where kids can get slammed up against the lockers, benches, etc. At least that’s what I’ve seen happen with the high schoolers I work with. If they’re interested in fighting, I refer them to the local boxing association.

You are exactly right. This is very common. I hate to say this but society right now has tried so hard to feminize boys even though biologically it is impossible. From what I understand about these “fight clubs” it is not bullies beating up people, these kids fight because they want to. Plus the popularity of MMA has them all jacked up.
