BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southeastern Conference has suspended officials from last weekend's Arkansas-Florida game after the crew was involved in its second controversial call of the year.
Referee Marc Curles' crew called a personal foul on Arkansas defensive lineman Malcolm Sheppard in the fourth quarter as the Gators were rallying for a 23-20 victory. The league said there was no video evidence to support the call.
The same group of officials called the LSU-Georgia game earlier this month, which included a late unsportsmanlike conduct penalty the league said shouldn't have been called.
"A series of calls that have occurred during the last several weeks have not been to the standard that we expect from our officiating crews," SEC commissioner Mike Slive said Wednesday. "I believe our officiating program is the best in the country. However, there are times when these actions must be taken."

Go Gators!!
You’re an SEC Referee?
All in an average SEC weekend. Go Gators!
bttt
On the take?
Hardly, all UAR had to do was then stop UF. UF was not in the endzone. And after UF tied the game UAR might have scored themselves. But alas they failed and UF marched the ball on the for a game winning field goal.
UAR that day was close to UF, but alas for you, they were not the equal to UF or better.
I thought this might be about last nights Ump crew in Anaheim. Both teams were rolling their eyes. Didn’t change the outcome, but it was an incredibly poor showing by the Umpire crew.
No doubt about it. They was robbed twice. It should have been Arkansas 20 Florida 13 final score. By the way, the SEC is by far the best conference in college football.
PING!!
Well, I doubt anyone would argue that this UA team is the equal of Florida on paper, but on this day they played well enough win, and it would have been appropriate to let the players sort out the better team on that particular Saturday, not these bonehead zebras.
Amen! Two bad calls in a row. I think it cost us the game.
parsy, the razorback
The suspension were deserved for the awful call that turned the end of the UGa v. LSU game. Last week’s call was just an excuse.
On that call the offical made a judgement that the UF guy pulled up with the whistle and the UAR guy could have. I pretty much agree the UF guy pulled up at the last second which is why he ended up on his butt. Whether the UAR guy could have pulled up to or not is tough to know. They have told officals the last couple of years to clean up the hitting after the whistle. So the official threw the flag.
I prefer they not throw any of these flags particularly late in close games. Football is a contact sport. You better be ready to be hit anytime you are within the white lines and just after you have crossed them too in my mind. But if you tell officials to clean up late hits, you must expect calls like this.
Too bad the NFL doesn’t suspend those idiot referees last Sunday for that totally idiotic 1st down call when the ball was at least 1 or 2 fists behind the first-down marker. Insane! Even the announcers (who definitely were not pro-Browns) couldn’t believe they gave the Steelers a 1st down.
‘Bout time the referees of most sports be made to pay for stupid, idiotic calls.
At least the 3rd.base ump. admitted he had erred over the double play ball that should have got both Posada and Swisher.
This crew well deserved to be removed from officiating, for good.
And any Florida fans or otherwise still pretending that the officiating wasn't grossly unfair to Arkansas, well, I expect you've got other problems of acknowledging reality other than in sports competitions.
