Nobody was attacking the parents over it. It just struck me as unusual when I read that this 7 year old girl had a skull and crossbones backpack, and that it was partly pink, so definitely intended for little girls. Now that I’ve seen a picture of the busy print, it doesn’t look as weird — the article had said “a” skull and crossbones. It probably wouldn’t even have struck me as odd if it had been a boy. I’d just never seen anything like a girly-pink backpack adorned with skull and crossbones.

If you read the original post I responded to, you can see where the poster implied that the parents must have thought the backpack was “cool” because if was “goth”. It was disparaging in both tone and context.
