I prefer “Nipply” to “Nippy”, as in “It IS a bit nipply out”
“It is a bit nipply out”
i.e., in cold weather a scantily clad woman might be seen to be “nippin’ out”.
Or, on that cold December day in 1948 when they hanged Tojo for war crimes, a correspondent remarked,
“Hmm..there’s a little nip in the air this morning.”
She didn’t use the n-word, but one night my girlfriend begged for the bedcovers: “if I don’t cover up, they’re going to stand up and sing the Star-Spangled Banner!!”
Anyway, my short list of overused cliches:
“Life is good”
“I have issues with that” (whatever became of “problems with that?)
“It is what it is”
“Back in the day”
