Does the term flatlander of city slicker ring a bell???
There are those of us who were raised in the mountains and worked out there too.
Hunting isn't dangerous, it idiots from the cities and flat country who don't know what they are doing that makes it interesting at times. I've found them when they are lost, hauled them out injured and hauled them out dead.
I've had a couple close calls with big bears, and an almost lethal argument with a P O’d 500 lb black bear.
I'll take my chances any day with a pack string of mules and a couple of dogs in the wilderness. The animals that live in some of the cities bother me a whole lot more. If a bear, cat, or wolf is messing with me or my animals I can shoot it and ride off. No big deal. People aren't so easy. I am totally comfortable 20 miles from the nearest road or person. I'm always armed and with two dogs and a string of mules hearing and smelling everything around me I sleep like a baby. You put me in a city where I can't openly carry and I don't have my animals and I'm not a happy camper.

More power to you. You obviously have a happy life doing what you enjoy and are competent at what you do.

I may have not made myself clear in my earlier posts. I have no objection to people who hunt. I don’t, but I do believe that anyone who eats meat is on the same moral level as a butcher or a hunter. Nor would I have any objections to going out to kill an animal to eat.

I would hope that if I were to try something like that I would have the intelligence to meet up with and gain the advice of a person who knows what they are doing before I tried it, though.

But my philosophy about people in the woods who get mauled by wild animals is also germane. They obviously do not know what they are doing, and thus do not deserve much in the way of sympathy if they do it wrong and end up as bear food. And, of course, even the best hunters can have a bad day.

I would like to think, however, that if a good hunter had a bad day and somehow came out the worse for wear in a one-on-one with a wild animal, he wouldn’t be crying for sympathy because of it. You pay your money, you take your chances.

I feel the same way about people who skydive, rodeo-ride, or engage in any of the other “not dangerous if everything is done right” sports. If they are doing it for the thrill, danger and feeling of adventure, they must also take responsibility for their actions if the worst happens.
