The animation doesn't show the round jamming at the forcing cone as my Colt did before I got fed up and got rid of it. The 1911's are notorious for being picky about ammunition used in them.

Buy a Springfield Armory XD-45. They function flawlessly with ANY kind of ammo, including hand loads.

I OWN an XD-SubCompact in .40. It’s a terrific pistol!

But my Rock Island 1911 is still my favorite. It eats everything I’ve fed it so far; and it makes a ragged hole out of the middle ring at 10 yards...

It’s also a lot of fun to customize, change and just generally pretty up.

Not arguing with you...just a different POV.

My Colts and Kimbers have never failed to feed. In fact, when I buy a new pistol, I take a handful of misc. ammo with different weight and types of bullets, load the mags to capacity, and fire. If there are any jams the weapon is replaced.

Both of my Kimbers have never failed to feed with any ammo I have used.

FWIW, there may be a longer break-in period with 1911’s, but IMO, there is no better gun to have on your hip.

Or one could always spend a little time setting in a chair, have a cool iced tea and use some very fine grit paper to polish the feed ramp and the barrel entrance to a nice shiny slick countenance. Thats worked wel for me for the last 35 yrs or so.

But its more fun to complain about things.

Any owner of a mechanical device owes it to themselves to understand why things go wrong. The early 1911’s had a very narrow ramp that has to be widened to accept anything other than hardball. It took an a WWII era Remington Rand to a gunsmith I used to work with and after he returned it, the pistol would chamber empty brass.

Forcing cones are the lead angle on the barrel of a revolver.
