Imagine the paradigm shift in the gun control debate if that happened.

We might see concealed or open carry mandated by law.

My guess is that you are 180° out of phase with reality! A couple of malls shot up with automatic weapons would bring on the biggest push for total confiscation the country has ever seen. It could also trigger an extralegal push for martial law and a suspension of the constitution. It would be just the excuse that the obamanation would need to move his agenda forward.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion but I have serious doubts that any such scenario would end well for the gun owning public.

You may be right. I also think it could turn the other way if it was clearly shown that it was armed private citizen's actions that prevented massacres across the country.

If we had a free press I think that would probably happen.

If there was the push you're thinking of it would come from the Left and the media. Maybe enough citizens would pay enough attention that they would see past the media filters and realize how stupid it is to disarm the law-abiding.
