Make a copy of the file before you try anything else. When trying to recover the file you might make destroy it.

this is the best advice. copy and save.

I usually try opening the copied file since I don’t care about.

Now right click on it and try to open in a web browser.

That usually works and then I save the file
.

Don’t know why but when I use other programs it is not looking some thing as a requirement to continue.

Kind of like opening a password protected Word file and using open source or wordperfect.

BTW, did she pass protect and forget the password?
