At the risk of receiving a Nobel Prize of some sort I will nevertheless suggest we experiment by banning europeans from swimming in the Mediterranean. I suspect these mucilages will quickly disappear (No - I cannot be banned - I am now a Nobel candidate ;-).

I will say this article is useless. "A blob of dead and living organic matter"? Could we address the living part? What is it? Animal, vegetable or mineral? What happens to it if sprayed with DDT? Roundup?
