History can be both a harsh and a fickle judge. Only time will tell how these events are going to be remembered.

Every event of human existence, great and small, had individuals who came down on opposing sides of issues. Some won, some lost.

I’ve often wondered what it was like for the losers on so many things. What did the individual Athenians who clamored for war with Sparta think to themselves when they sweated through another starving night as plague swept through them?

There’s a great book called ‘Forgotten Soldier” by Guy Sajer that tells the story of what it was like for a German solider on the Eastern front at the end of WWII. It’s a great book, I’d strongly recommend it for anyone who has also contemplated the question of what it’s like to come down on the wrong side of history.

Anyways. I’ve found the best things people can do are to try to be intellectually honest with ourselves and to not burn bridges over disagreements. Eventually this issue will be settled, one way or another, and we will need to pitch in together on other things.
