Texas does have fairly high property taxes. 2/3rds of which is designated for school taxes. There is no state income tax.

I only get a retirement pension and SS, and I live in Texas.

As you said, we don’t have a State income tax. However, my property taxes for City, County, ISD and Hospitals is almost TWELVE PERCENT of my income!

With the burst of the housing bubble, foreclosures, loss of property value, etc., one would think that my taxes would go down. .....Didn’t happen! The new appraisal RAISED my property value so they can suck in more in tax revenue.
