They have NO quarterback, which leaves them very easy to defend against. Give them another year and they will be a serious contender.

I figured USC would lose at least once this year. They don’t seem to have that killer instinct.

Damn shame. The Buckeyes beat themselves last week, and could be right in the hunt today.

USC is good for one big letdown win per year. Nobody does less with more than USC.

They are a fraud, they beat up on a weak ass PAC 10, Notre Dame every year and are then given a human sacrifice from the Big 10.

A couple of things:

1) Former coach Ty Willingham did do a great recruiting job and put in a lot a surprisingly good players on the Washington team.

2) Current head coach Steve Sarkisian KNOWS the USC system of football extremely well (after all, he was USC assistant coach last year!), and as such knew how to stop the USC team on offense and defense.

3) Such games are the best reason why we need to have an eight-team playoff system in college football--a lot less pressure to have a perfect or one-loss season in order to get a chance to win the National Championship.

There is part of me that doesn’t want a playoff system, because this why there is in essence a playoff game every week.

Face it, who cares about college basketball until the NCAA tournament?

I just finished listening to Texas head coach Mack Brown's interview on The Herd with Colin Cowherd radio show (this from the September 18, 2009 show) and Brown said the BEST reason for an eight-game playoff is that there's less pressure on the players to win every week--a burden that can cause problems on the field. The problem with the NCAA basketball tournament is that there are TOO many teams in the field--the NCAA could cut it back to 48 teams and still have a pretty good tournament.

That's why I'm in favor--despite our common dislike of him!--President Obama's suggestion for an eight-team playoff. Mind you, my eight-team playoff system would go like this:

1) We get a modified version of the overall Bowl Championship Series rankings, and the overall rankings start on the first weekend of October.
2) Every team plays a minimum eleven-game schedule.
3) Every major conference must have a 12th game for a conference championship.
4) In the case of certain independents like Notre Dame, they must play a full 12-game schedule, since they don't have a conference championship game.
5) After all these games are played, the #1 to #8 ranked teams in the final BCS-like ranking are seeded for the tournament, with #1 vs #8, #2 vs #7, #3 vs #6 and #4 vs #5, where the higher-ranked teams get to host the first-round games. This may actually tilt the balance of power back to the more northern teams, since a high-ranked in this system--say for example Michigan or Ohio State--would have weather advantages playing in early December for the first playoff round!
6) After the first playoff round, the playoffs shut down to accommodate college exam finals. The remaining teams are reseeded #1 to #4 with a new BCS-like ranking.
7) Three major bowl games out of these bowl games--Rose, Fiesta, Cotton, Sugar, and Orange--are chosen for the semifinal and final games.
8) The semifinal games will be played a few days before New Year's Day, and the final will be played about one week afterwards.
