The bizarre, wondrous creature known as the aye-aye is a rare resident of Madagascar, a nation with among the greatest biodiversity in the world. There are countless animals there that simply can't be found anywhere else on the planet. Unfortunately, a recent military coup overthrew Madagascar's government, and ever since, criminals have been plundering and butchering the country's wildlife at a disastrous rate.
As for the aye-aye, which naturalist Stephen Fry says looks like someone tried to "turn a bat into a cat," but I think looks more like a teddy bear mixed with a mad scientist--it stands to be wiped out by this illicit trade.

Madagascar? Africans like Obama wiping out the wildlife in Africa. Mugabe did this in Zimbabwe. His thugs killed and stole from whites and killed elephants and other wildlife indiscriminately. Poor animals.

Probably not. They’ll strip their land clean of any ability to produce food, and then sit in the sand posing for the cameras to get humanitarian aid.

The aye-aye has been in trouble for quite a while. Superstitious Malagasy (of which, apparently, there are many) believe the aye-aye to be an omen of bad luck. Some consider it evil, even, and will kill one if they encounter it.
Yes, things are not looking good for the aye-aye...

That thing looks too ugly to allow it to exist!
Certainly doesn’t look edible or wearable, it must be useless.
More power to the butchers!

Because they keep churning out babies, despite the fact that they can’t even provide a decent standard of living for the ones they already have. We shouldn’t be sending any aid to these countries except contraceptives. Slow their population growth down enough that they can start figuring out how to raise their own standard of living.
