BOSTON – The Massachusetts House of Representatives has given initial approval to a bill allowing Gov. Deval Patrick to name an interim appointment to the Senate seat left vacant when Edward Kennedy died last month.

The House voted 97-58 in favor of the bill Thursday evening. It needs a second vote before it moves to the Massachusetts Senate, where its outcome remains unclear.

When I first read the headline, I thought they were leaving the Union.

I was surprised that they wanted to secede, but thought ‘hey, good for them.’

If Teddy was a truly an honest person he would of resigned months ago to make sure the people of Mass had representation.

Me too! I was really in awe of them.

It’s amazing how fast the Legislature acted on Ted Kennedy’s last wish. Guess Mass. has no other real problems for them to deal with.

Such a lucky State.

There are ads running on Boston radio stations urging Massholes to call their reps to make this happen!

The ads are sponsored by MassVote.org, a “non-partisan” outfit made up of...you guessed it... community organizers.

He would have had to step down before the 2008 elections. In 2004, the Massachusetts Legislature stripped the governor of the authority to appoint interim Senators. They didn’t want Romney picking Kerry’s successor. Teddy supported that bill stripping the governor of authority to appoint a successor.

As it is, there are constitutional questions about this new proposal. When the vacancy occurred, the governor lacked the appointment authority. While this could apply to future vacancies, for Kennedy’s seat, this reeks of ex-post-facto. States are barred from passing ex-post-facto laws.

“…Alice in Wonderland…,” maybe;

Although, I really think America’s landscape looks more Faustian and Kafkaesque of the “Clown Universe.” The political class has perpetuated itself into a state of absolute corruption as a Governmental Religion.

LOL! That's what I thought it said at first too :) Had to do a double take. Wouldn't that be sweet if the ultra-blue states started to drop out of the union in a moronic Utopian attempt to create their own "worker's paradise?" We can dream.
