Alabama beat Va. Tech which has a victory, or do you mean when they played them?

I count the victories of opponents at the time a team played that opponent. The more victories for a team gives a better indication of that team's performance.

I mean, it's hard to beat someone who has a win when they haven't even played a game yet.

That is the very reason why games earlier in the season carry less weight in my system than games later in the season. The first game in the season is the least important because there is no measurement of a team's success. That is the reason why pre-season polls are a farce. It would be a far more meaningful game if Alabama were to beat A Virginia Tech who is 10-0 than 0-0.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a dawg fan, I'm just trying to understand here.

So, according to your system, teams have zero incentive to schedule real opponents like Va tech instead of NW La tech for the first game.
