A man who was menaced by a herd of cows while walking his dog had to take refuge by jumping into the River Thames and staying there for over an hour.

The man was walking along the towpath near Radcot in Oxfordshire on Tuesday evening when the cows began chasing him. In order to avoid their attentions, he jumped into the river.

He stayed there for twenty minutes before phoning the police.

Authorities reacted quickly, putting a helicopter on standby in case he needed rescuing, and bringing in an officer experienced in cow-herding issues to talk him through the complex process of driving the cows away.

Violent criminals breaking into homes while people are at home get no reponse from the cops in the UK. Maybe they should call 999 and tell the Brit coppers that cows are breaking in.

Cows in the UK have more common sense than Labour Party or Lib Dem voters.

Cows like to come over and look at you.

They are also conditioned to come running if they think someone is going to feed them.

One of my coworkers was helping one of his neighbors round up some cattle to move to another part of the farm when one of them decided that she didn't want to go. She slammed Jim into the side of the barn, breaking his pelvis, causing some internal injuries, and putting him in the hospital for five days.

Now that's a cow gone bad.

???? Any country boy here knows how to do that. And no need for a helicopter.

That's what I was thinking. When cows take an interest in following people, it is likely because they are accustomed to being fed, or the person happens to be on their usual cowpath to a food or water source at the time of day they staart down it. They tend to follow eachother single file.

In this case they stuck around to see what the stupid human was doing in the river, and he, being a big floundering chicken, must have been welcome amusement to them.
