Mary Travers, whose ringing, earnest vocals with the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary made songs like “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “If I Had a Hammer” and “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” enduring anthems of the 1960s protest movement, died Wednesday night in Danbury Hospital in Connecticut. She was 72 and had lived in Redding, Conn.

If I never hear a Peter Paul and Mary song again, I will be a very, VERY happy man.

That was the kind of music that scares little kids. All the music from that era was very disturbing to hear as a small child.

Thanks for the post - didn’t see the earlier one.

Learned to play guitar with the Peter Paul and Mary songs.

Blowing in the Wind was the first song I could play.

Loved their music, not their politics but when they started singing - I was too young to care about politics.

Mary had a unique singing voice, to say the least.

God rest her soul.

I remember that - I was there and was so upset - even wrote a letter to the editor of the campus newspaper. Didn’t realize that PPM were commies, but I was young and very naive.

Loved their music, but my wife and I walked out of a PPM concert back a few years ago because of the insistent political attacks. We weren't alone.

I don’t like their politics, but there’s no denying their musical and performing skill. I’m glad they made a comeback and I will miss them. (Yeah, I know, Mary’s gone, Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey remain, but it will not be THEM again on this side of life.)

I remember stealing my older brother's 45's to play on my record player. Many tears were shed over Puff the Magic Dragon. "Green scales fell like rain...". It was recorded before I was born, but I remember crying when I played it.
