The official Mormon religion -- The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints -- doesn't allow plural marriage anymore, but that didn't stop a local Florida State fan from lampooning the religion's polygamist past as the Seminoles prepare to travel to Brigham Young Saturday for a game against No. 7 Brigham Young.
The avid FSU fan's name is Jim Lory, whose late father John Lory was a loyal Florida State supporter whom I've written about in the past. Several years ago before he passed away, John bought a giant theater marquee and put it in front of his old workshop near downtown Winter Garden on the West Orange Trail. Every week during the football season, he paid tribute to Bobby Bowden's victory total and put a poem on the sign that usually disparaged FSU's upcoming opponent. Since John's death, his son Jim, an FSU grad, has continued the tradition.
With FSU traveling to BYU Saturday, the sign's poetic message this week reads:
FSU Must Play
Game of Their Lives
Score More Points
Than Mormons Have Wives.

Florida should be careful. I was raised there and knew of several “fundamental Mormons” families.
That’s one way to piss off you opponents and get them all charged up to beat you. BTW, can I say piss off about Mormons? I’ve never seen a pissed off Mormon, gosh darn it.

since it says mormons and not lds, it is not completely incorrect as many of the offshoots of lds still practice polygamy. As does lds but only after death

j.f.smith 10th “prophet” of the lds in Doctrines of Salvation, Vol. 2, p. 67 “my wives will be mine in eternity.”
This guy was just being goofy. I doubt he ment any harm. He probably shouldn’t talk too much smack at BYU right now anyway. FSU isn’t very good, the ACC is terrible, and BYU will probably win this game by a pretty good margin. Don’t poke Cougars.
Or Nittany Lions! WE ARE!! PENN STATE!! :-)
I suppose that’s TWO reasons I became a FSU fan when I lived and worked in Orlando.
Not at BYU.
I think thats funny and people should lighten up. Can’t deny that that ol’ Joseph Smith and BYU’s name sake each had a raft of wives and that plural marriage wouldn’t have been gotten rid of were it not for political considerations.
