When I called to complain Comcast technical support said that they were performing a "test of the emergency broadcast system" that switched all digital boxes in Western Washington to C-span and would not allow subscribers to watch anything else.

Wow. I've heard bad things about Comcast, but this takes the cake. We have Cox Communications cable and have been generally happy with thait.

However, on the day that Sarah Palin gave the speech in her backyard announcing she was stepping down as Alaska governor, we missed part of her speech because Cox suddenly had to test the emergency broadcast system. This was in the middle of the day here in Connecticut. On our system Cox does its EBS tests 99% of the time between 1-2am (I'm often up and I see them).

Hmmmm.....
