“Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.”
I am amazed at how everyone is so quick to throw stones at Kanye West. Yes what he did was despicable, but he apologized and seemed genuinely upset about it. Not only about the Taylor Swift incident, but the interview clearly shows that he was apologetic over the George Bush comment as well. He wasn’t even being asked about Bush and made it a point to defend his humanity and against the senseless attacks against his character—of which West himself was guilty of.
I think it’s even more despicable how people have made racist comments such as “go back to the ghetto” or calling him all kinds of names... We’ve all been guilty in some way or another of blurting out folly, hurting someone’s feelings, and making a mistake! What West did was wrong, but the insipid name-calling celebrities and people have resorted to just shows how tasteless and empty this society really is. Everyone has now proved to be no worse than Kanye West and realize the comments they direct at him apply only to themselves.
Felicity, you are correct. Mr. West did what he did, and he’s apologized. Whatever consequences await him are between him and God.
However, there are some here at FR who will continue to denigrate anyone they see as fit for scorn. There are some here for whom the concept of forgiveness only applies to “people like themselves” and everyone else can suffer for their crimes without hope of mercy.
I’ve been here quite a while, and it’s only gotten worse since early November. You can imagine why.
i really don’t care if hes black or white and be careful with what you say here.. listen carefully, the mtv awards show is simply a party, not a real award show.
for years adam sandler sweeps it, as much as i love the guy, how much merit does that give him at the oscars, persay?
but when some drunk/high fhead jumps up on stage and ruins a moment, someones precious moment in their life, thats unforgiveable.
if beyonce went up and put up a fight, i’d maybe understand. although i haven’t even seen that video either. i’m simply talking about normal hollywood ‘stars’ antics.
don’t try and defend him, politically i didn’t even hear what was said about G.W. . all i know is that someone other than his favourite won, and he was the buzz-killer.
what else is there to add to that? i’m not going to comment on his talent or anybody else that was at that awards show, i’m simply pointing out simple human etiquette.
have some respect, please. if not for me, then for taylor swift..but in the end you’ll respect us both cuz we both won.
I’m not much of one to cut celebrities slack, but when I saw the clip of him apologizing on Leno he did seem like he was shook up about what he had done. In this clip, at the inauguration, he seemed to go out of his way to talk about President Bush. Maybe that was his way of apologizing for what he said about President Bush during Katrina. I will say though, if that is the case, he didn’t seem to learn much from his outburst about President Bush. He needs to get something under control—his mouth, his drinking, whatever it is. Two times now he’s acted like a “jackass” for whatever reason. You can only apologize so much for the same type of thing—after awhile people aren’t going to buy it. Hope he’s reached rock bottom.
When he got onstage and ruined a girls moment, selfishly grabbing the mic when it didn’t even involve him, he acted like a pig.
And a child. And a spoiled brat. He made it all about him.
Well, it’s all about him now, all right. Everyone clearly sees what a jackass he is, and is calling him on it.
Don’t act so indignant and surprised.
