NEW YORK (AP) - President Barack Obama and former President Bill Clinton met privately for about 90 minutes on Monday, discussing the global economy over a meal in Manhattan.

The two leaders emerged from Il Mulino, an Italian restaurant in Greenwich Village, lingering long enough for photographs before Obama climbed back into his limousine. Obama said nothing to the gathered press while a cheery Clinton raved about the food when asked how the lunch went.

White House press secretary Robert Gibbs later told reporters that the presidents spent most of their time talking about the economy, including the component of health care reform.

while a cheery Clinton raved about the food

I suspect she out-scarfed her guest by considerably margin.

Great choice! Probably the best Italian restaurant in NYC: authentic, superb Italian soul food.

the presidents spent most of their time talking about the economy

And how to destroy it totally once and for all. And, laughing about how the peons were paying for their meal.

The best Italian restaurant in NYC is not in the Village.

Felidia Ristorante. Among the very best. ;-D

I do wonder if they tipped though.

How is it that two very average men can do something very ordinary, and end up looking like a special pair of flaming a-holes. It must be a gift.

A customer review:

Extremely Overrated by RoccoM May 13, 2009 Over the last 15 years i use to frequent Il Mulino often. The food was extremely good years ago, but since its been sold a 2 years ago its been a steady decline. I don't mind paying for enjoyable dinning experiences, but the last visit to this restaurant was my last. The food was over salted, greasy, overcooked and frankly offensive. Out of the 6 people at our table, (who are all italian), not one plate was finished, no one ate any of the pasta. The main courses were forgettable as well. This resturant is nothing more than tourist trap at this point. The bill for 6 people, with 2 bottles of wine was $2600 and for that amount of money it better be higher quality. If your looking for good Italian food in NYC go to Babbo, Del Posto, Scalini Fedili, or Al Di Ala and I promiss you it will be ten times better than Il Mulino. * Pros: Private Line for reservations * Cons: Overpriced, Crammed, terrible food

The further removed from Italy, either by generations or just time, the lower quality the Italian food. Unfortunately the flip side to this is if you go to Italy, they try to feed you to death.

Never get into an argument about which region of Italy has the best food or wine. The argument started about 500 B.C., and still hasn’t ended.

Again, if you visit Italy, watch out if your hosts have “his and hers” kitchens, or are still cooking at any time between midnight and 5am.
